2. The main developments in the first three months of 1999 compared to the same period
of 1998, were:
(a) The total registrations of motor vehicles during the first quarter of 1999
decreased by 9,8% to 8.262 from 9.159 vehicles in the same period of 1998.
(b) Private saloon cars decreased to 4.698 from 5.695 last year (January-March) i.e.
there was a decrease of 17,5%. Of the total private saloon cars 1.570 vehicles or 33,4%
were new and 3.128 vehicles or 66,6% were used vehicles.
(c) Goods conveyance vehicles decreased by 2,7% to 1.946 from last year`s 2.001
vehicles. Light goods vehicles decreased by 6,9% to 1.762 and heavy goods vehicles
increased by 68,8% to 184 in January-March 1999.
(d) Mechanised cycles increased 32,1% and totalled 1.029 compared to 779 in
January-March 1998.
