Map of Cyprus and pin-point of Ayios Amvrosios
"No one can rest, no one's conscious
can be clean, until the hour comes when all refugees return to the ancient Greek
land of Kyrenia. Kyrenia is the land where we belong, is the land of our ancient
history, it is where our identity exists".

The chapel of Ayios (Saint)
Demetrianos in Ayios Amvrosios. In the far horizon you can see the small
rock-island in the Kyrenian pelagos. According to legend there was a
sea-beast terrorising the villagers of Ayios Amvrosios. They asked for
Ayios Demetrianos help and Ayios Demetrianos transformed the sea-beast
into that rock-island. The rock-island is called "shiros" and
the area there is called also "shiros".

The new High School was found in 1960 after the private "Higher
School of Agios Amvrosios" became public. The new school was a
classical Greek Gymnasium. The school complexes were improved and enlarged
in 1966-67. The brutal turkish invasion forced all Greek inhabitants to

The Easter tradition of Trizo-gyra in
Agios Amvrosios. Trizogyra is made with a straight pine tree approximately
75 feet long. They cut 8 feet from the thick side of the pine and they
bury 3ft underground. Then they make a hole on the tree's thick side while
they narrow the pole edge to fit in the hole. One person is then sited on
the thin side of the tree and up to eight on the thick and thus forcing
the thin side to elevate. Then they begin rolling the whole thing with
extreme speed. The movement produces a very loud sound because of the
addition of carbon and petroleum inside the whole. -
