Statement by The UN Spokesman on the Secretary General's Letter to President Papadopoulos

CNA: Did the Secretary General send any letters on Cyprus to the parties?

Spokesman: Yes, he sent a letter to the Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos, as you can probably guess the content of the letter is consistent with his long-standing position on that issue.

CNA: Did he send a letter to the other parties on Cyprus ?

Spokesman: We are not aware of any other letters beside that one. I have no further details other than what I have given you.

CNA: May we guess that it is a reply to the letter by Mr. Papadopoulos?

Spokesman: Yes it is.
