Signs Framework Convention on Tobacco Control

The Permanent Representative of
Cyprus
to the United Nations Ambassador Andreas Mavroyiannis on
24 May 2004
signed on behalf of the
Cyprus
government the WHO Framework Convention of Tobacco Control at the Treaty
Section of the Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations.
The
convention was adopted during the 56th Assembly of the World Health
Organization (WHO) which took place during the 19-28 May in
Geneva
. The WHO Convention constituted the first multilateral legal framework for the
control of tobacco and it is signed by 117 countries and has 16 parties. The
instrument is open for signatures between
the 30th June 2003
and
29th June 2004
at UN headquarters.
