Mr. Antonis Paschalides was appointed Minister of
Commerce, Industry and Tourism on 29 February 2008.
He was born in London, on 15 July 1952. He has been living in Cyprus since
1955. His family comes from the village of Yialousa, Famagusta District.
He studied Law in the UK and obtained a B.A. (Hons) and a Barrister-at-Law
degree. He has been practicing law since 1980 and is a partner with the law
firm Antonis Paschalides & Co. He has been a member of the Nicosia
Lawyers' Association for 15 years.
He became involved in politics as President of the Students Union of West
Ham College and was actively involved in the National Committee of Support
for the Enclaved. He is founding member of the Refugee Associations "Eleftheri
Eniaia Karpassia" and "Eleftheroi Gialousites".
He taught Law at the I.M.C.S. Intercollege for 16 years and was an examiner
for the AAT London examinations.
In 1988 he was appointed Member of the Air Transport Authority by the
Council of Ministers, a position he served until February 1998.
He is a member of the Executive Secretariat of the Democratic Party.
He is married to Marie-Helene and has two children.
