Registrations of Motor Vehicles During January-June 1998

The Department of Statistics and Research announces that it has issued its quarterly report entitled "Registration of Motor Vehicles for the period January-June 1998".

  1. The main developments in the first six months of 1998 compared to the same period of 1997, were:
    1. The total registrations of motor vehicles during the first six months of 1998 increased by 22,8% to 19.688 from 16.030 vehicles in the same period of 1997. Of the total motor vehicles registered 9.025 were new vehicles and 10.663 were used vehicles. All categories of vehicles exhibited increase on the registrations in the first half of 1998, compared to 1997.
    2. Private saloon cars increased to 11.709 from 9.823 in January-June, 1997 i.e. there was an increase of 19,2%. Of the total private saloon cars 2.849 vehicles or 24,3% were new and 8.860 vehicles or 75,7% were used cars.
    3. Goods conveyance vehicles increased by 21,6% to 3.891 from last year's 3.201 vehicles; Light goods vehicles increased by 25,0% to 3.657 and Heavy goods vehicles decreased by 4,9% to 234 in January-June, 1998.
    4. Mechanised cycles increased by 38,4% and totalled 2.657 compared to 1.920 in January-June, 1997.
