Registrations of Motor Vehicles During January - September 1998

The Department of Statistics and Research announces that it has issued its quarterly report entitled "Registration of Motor Vehicles for the period January - September 1998".

  1. The main developments in the first nine months of 1998 compared to the same period of 1997, were:
    1. The total registrations of motor vehicles during the first nine months of 1998 increased by 24,7% to 30.345 from 24.336 vehicles in the same period of 1997. Almost all categories of vehicles exhibited increase on the registrations in the first nine months of 1998, compared to 1997.
    2. Private saloon cars increased to 18.186 from 14.639 in January - September 1997 i.e. there was an increase of 24,2%. Of the total private saloon cars 4.610 vehicles or 25,3% were new and 13.576 vehicles or 74,7% were used cars.
    3. Goods conveyance vehicles increased by 22,0% to 5.636 from last year's 4.620 vehicles; Light goods vehicles increased by 24,4% to 5.260 while Heavy goods vehicles decreased by 4,1% to 376 in January - September 1998.
    4. Mechanised cycles increased by 29,0% and totalled 4.687 compared to 3.633 in January - September 1997.
