TWO MAJOR VOTES TOMORROW IN U.S. CONGRESS

Tomorrow afternoon two key committees will be voting on legislation regarding U.S. policy toward Cyprus, Greece and Turkey. Greek-Americans across the country who find their member of Congress on the attached lists are strongly urged to contact them immediately and urge them to support the issues listed.

The House International Relations Committee is scheduled to vote on the Cyprus Resolution [H. Con. Res. 81] titled, "Calling for a U.S. Initiative Seeking a Just and Peaceful Resolution of the Situation in Cyprus." This resolution now has 40 cosponsors.

In addition, the House Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee will be voting on the annual foreign aid appropriations bill, which will determine the amount of aid the U.S. will send Cyprus, Greece and Turkey next fiscal year (1998). Congressman John Porter (R-IL) will again be leading efforts to send Turkey a message of U.S. disapproval of their actions over the last year by cutting Turkey's aid.
