LOCAL SIGHTSEEING EXCURSIONS


A.
PLATRES / OMODHOS

Drive to Platres via Lania. After a stop at the Psilon Dentron, in Platres, the participants will be given the opportunity to follow the nature trail through the woods, leading to the Caledonian Falls. The Trooditissa Monastery will be visited followed by free time for lunch and shopping at Platres.

The picturesque village of Omodhos with its pebbled paved square, the narrow streets and the church of the Holy Cross, will be the next stop before the excursionists return to their hotels.


B.
PAPHOS


After driving through the evergreen Phassouri Plantations and the British Sovereign Base of Akrotiri, the excursion will proceed to the partly restored Sanctuary of Apollo Hyiates - the God of Woodland. We then stop for photographs at the legendary Birthplace of Aphrodite - the Goddess of Beauty and Love.

At Paphos we shall visit the rock-carved Tombs of the Kings (4th-2nd Century B.C.), the Forty Columns, a Byzantine fortification (the Paphos Fort rebuilt during the 16th Century), the Pillar of St. Paul where, according to Biblical history, the Apostle was tied and flogged, and the Byzantine Church of Chrysopolitissa.

After lunch the excursion will continue with a visit to the unique and impressive Mosaics at the Roman Villas of Dionysos (2nd-3rd Century A.D.), Theseus (3rd-5th Century A.D.) and the House of Aeon (4th Century A.D.) where every picture tells a story.

 

C.
NICOSIA


Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, lies in the centre of the island's plains and is the only major inland town. It comprises of the old town encircled by Medieval walls, and the new town spreading outside the walls.

The tour begins with a visit to the handicraft Centre where traditional crafts are being revived. From there we shall proceed to the Cyprus Archaeological Museum with its huge collection of important archaeological finds through which the cultural heritage of the island can be traced.

Next there will be a stop at Laiki Yitonia, a restored neighbourhood close to the main square of the town, which gives an idea of life in times past. The Archbishop's Palace is situated within the walls in the heart of the Nicosia. Within its grounds lies the Byzantine Museum, one of the finest museums of its kind in the world, where the tour will end.




 SHUTTLE BUS SERVICE

  A return shuttle bus service will be offered between the hotels in Limassol and Larnaca and the International Conference Centre, at CYP13,00 per person per day, subject to sufficient demand.

PAYMENTS

  All rates quoted are in Cyprus Pounds and inclusive of all taxes.
The total cost must be settled in full by 30th September, 1997.

Cancellation of Registration:
