The photographs below were sent in by Sotiri Petri. My many thanks go to Sotiri.

The church of Chrysosotira . This photo was taken from the West a few years after the
Turkish invasion. You can clearly see houses in ruins. Even the cross has been removed from the domes

This is the view of the church taken from the
North West. On this photo you can still see the cross on top of the church.

People talking about ethnic cteansing in Yugoslavia, just an excuse from the
Americans to break up Yugoslavia.
Nobody talks about ethnic cleansing in the northern part of Cyprus. The Turks are destroying everything thats got a link with the Greeks

The church now is used by the Turks as a mosque. You can see people sitting on
the floor praying. The Icons have been removed (stolen) from the walls and sold.

One question?? Would the Americans be standing about if one of their churches has
been damaged.? The answer is no, instead they would go and destroy a country

Not even our dead can rest in peace. This is the result of the vandalism done by the
turks a nation who wants to join the European Union.  No chance mate

Below are some nice memories of Akanthou, taken before the Brutal Turkish invasion Of Cyprus in 1974. Andrea Polydorou was kind enough to send some personal photos. Thanks Andrea.

Here Andreas Palydorou together with Christoforo Keliri are enjoying the view of

Your photographs are wanted

Please keep on sending us your photographs of occupied Akanthou. The photographs could be of any occasion, a wedding, school photos, playing with friends, or you could be hard at work in the fields. It would be preferred if there is scenery in the photos but it does not matter. Until that day when we the rightful occupants of Akanthou return to our land , we need these photos to share the memories and tears of our village Akanthou.

Please send in your photographs in the form of e-mails. Scan the photos and e-mail them to Mr Pantelis Pantelides together with a description of the subject. Click here to send
