As of May 1 2004, Cyprus is a full member of the:

Agios Epiktitos Before the 1974 barbaric Turkish invasion

Before the barbarian Turkish invasion in 1974 on the island, the people of Ayios Epiktitos used to plant crops such as vegetables, carobs, olives, almond trees, citrus trees, and other fruit-bearing trees which were the main source of income for many families.
Others used to work in Kyrenia or Nicosia (the capital) and traveled back and forth every day.
The population of Ayios Epiktitos has been increasing steadily and consistently throughout the years.
A table of this growth is given below

Throughout the years, Ayios Epiktitos proved to be one of the fastest growing villages in Kyrenia district. This steady development, prosperity and growth of its population can be seen from the early years by looking the chart below showing the number of elementary school students as far back as in 1892.
Due to the Turkish invasion, ALL inhabitants of Ayios Epiktitos were forced to leave their village and are now refugees in their own country. 15 of our fellow villagers were captured by the Turkish invading military forces in 1974 and are missing since then.

Agios Epiktitos After the 1974 Turkish invasion

Most of our fellow villagers found a temporary shelter in Nicosia and in Limassol. Others left Cyprus and are now relocated throughout the world. Most of them went to the United Kingdom, others to Australia and the United States, and some went to Greece, Germany, or other European countries. Turks ILLEGALLY RENAMED AGIOS EPIKTITOS into Catalkoy.

AGIOS EPIKTITOS PUBLICATIONS

The desire to return to Ayios Epiktitos is not diminished by the passing of the years. People of Ayios Epiktitos are always active, publishing books about the village for the younger to learn and for the older to remember, gather videotapes and pictures from the village and stay alarmed for any changes that Turks perform in our village.

The book "The tear of the jasmines" is a poetic collection about our occupied village, Ayios Epiktitos, written by Ms. Chloe Prokopiou, Author, Poet, and Educator from Ayios Epiktitos. The complete collection of the poems along with audio performances of the poems will be posted on the web very soon. (Greek version only)

Cyprus. Our troubled island through the centuries. Our villages. Our houses. The people. How they used to live in the old times. How they managed to enjoy a few years of freedom.

The book «(Water) Spring  of Agios Epiktitos of Kyrenia» (Greek Version Only) is aimed to bring back to life, the lives of our fathers, that lived here, in Cyprus, in a village of the now occupied areas. The narratives are reincarnating the days beginning from the end of the Ottoman Rule in Cyprus (1878) until the tragic events of the Turkish invasion against Cyprus in 1974. ALL INHABITANTS OF AGIOS EPIKTITOS WERE FORCED TO FLEE AGIOS EPIKTITOS, WHEREAS some were KILLED, or are still MISSING as a result of the barbaric Turkish Invasion Against Cyprus. History repeats itself since the same happened with our Greek brothers in Asia Minor in 1922. The distinction with us is that WE WILL SOON MARCH BACK TO AGIOS EPIKTITOS. The text can be of general interest, regardless of place of origin. The photos are touching, since they were retrieved with great amount of effort, since access to our occupied village is virtually impossible. Access to us, legal inhabitants of Ayios Epiktitos has been constantly and repeatedly denied by the Turkish occupation army.

You can acquire this book from bookstores and from the Author Ms. Kate Frangkou Anastasiadou at the phones +357-22-463-050, or +357-99-307-220
